Synopsis:

Rescue of the Green Snake (excerpt from "Madam White Snake"
(Featuring See Too Hoi Siang, Wu Poh Yin and dancers from Sri Warisan)
This episode is extracted from the famous Chinese legend "Madam White Snake" about the romance between a white snake fairy and a scholar named Xu Xian.

The episode begins with the white snake fairy being imprisoned in the lily pond as a punishment for her infringement against the heavenly rules when she fell in love with one of the immortals. After twenty years of confinement, the white snake fairy managed to free herself with her supernatural powers.

The White Snake Fairy, having transformed herself into a human called Madam White Snake, rushes down to earth to a place called the Broken Bridge in West Lake to meet her scholar lover Xu Xian, who was formerly one of the immortals in the heavens but banished to earth because of his traternisation with the White Snake Fairy. On her way to earth, Madam White Snake rescues the Green Snake Fairy who is imprisoned by the King of the Sea Kingdom for causing trouble in the sea. Out of gratitude, the Green Snake becomes Madam White Snake's maid, and both of them flee to West Lake.

Picking the Jade Bracelet
(Featuring Cheong Siew Wai, Wu Poh Yin and dancers from Sri Warisan)

A light Chinese Opera excerpt which is found in almost every form of Chinese Opera. The story revolves on love at first sight between a village maiden and a scholar.

The story begins with Sun Yu Jiao, a village maiden proceeds to do the household chores on a bright day as her mother has gone out. Fu Peng, a scholar passes by and is attracted by her beauty. Using the pretext of wanting to buy her chicken the scholar tries to befriend her and strikes up a conversation. She replies that she is unable to decide as her mother is not at home and will not return until evening. She asks the scholar to leave. The scholar refuses toi leave as he has fallen in love with her. He tries to think of plan to convey his feeling for her as in ancient China, a woman and a stranger should not be found close to one another, let alone expressing openly one's love.

The scholar finally thinks of a plan to test the maiden's feelings. He places his jade bracelet on the ground outside her house. Should the girl pick it up, it would mean that she would accept his love for her; and he would then propose to her.

The maiden in fact has also fallen in love with the scholar at first sight. She is unaware of the scholar's intention. After much thought, she finally picks up the jake bracelet. At this juncture, the scholar appears and tells her that he is giving he the jade bracelet as a gift. Though abashed, the maiden accepts the jade bracelet.
