SYNOPSIS
The Song Dynasty (960 AD - 1279 AD) was marked by intermittent invasions by the Mongolians. The last of such invasions was in the year 1268 AD when Kublai Khan launched a massive attack against mainland China which finally resulted in the collapse of the Song Dynasty and rise of the Yuan Dynasty (1279 AD - 1368 AD).
Xie Fang De, the prince consort and Lu Xiu Fu, a loyal official, were entrusted with the responsibility to protect the two young heirs to the throne, namely Song Di Gong and Song Di Bing. In furtherance of their plan, Wen Jie, teacher of Princess Wen Feng's daughter arranged for the princess to infiltrate into the Mongolian camp to divert Kublai Khan's attention from hunting down the two fugitive heirs. Princess Wen Feng, however, was not successful.
Seeing that the situation was hopeless, Lu Xiu Fu jumped into the sea with the two young heirs and all three of them perished. Xie Fang De was killed by Kublai Khan when he tried to assassinate the latter. Princess Wen Feng also killed herself to demonstrate her love for her husband the prince consort and her loyalty to the Song kingdom. The Yuan Dynasty replaced the Song Dynasty in 1279.
